Eid Al-Adha History and Significance
Society all over the world has recognised many religions for communities to follow and form their lifestyle in accordance to. A big chunk of these religions are Abrahamic originated that form the majority population of the world. Islam being one of these religions is known to have an approximate 25 Prophets, who preached and developed the religion further.
Eid Al-Adha is celebrated every year as a honorary day for the willingness of sacrifice by Prophet Ibrahim, of his only son Ishmael for the sake of Allah and his unwavering belief in his decisions and wants. Until Allah himself saw the dedication and interfered, by using a sheep instead of his son for the sacrifice. Allah saved Ibrahim's son Ismail who later himself grew up to be a prophet with the same belief system as his father.
Prophet Ibrahim was born in Ancient Babylon, (now Iraq) and confronted his community belief of Paganism and statue worship. While his own father was a statue artist of clay and wood, Ibrahim seeked logic and concept to put his belief in. Hence he found nature and simply the world around him which gave him a spiritual home. Eid ul-Adha is celebrated in the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah, which is also a month of Paying Hajj to the holy and spiritual places of Mecca and Medina. Hence the significance of the day is homage to the Holy Sacrifice, by giving food to the poor, by helping those who need it and to be a good person.
